Physical Education

 

Junior PE

Students have 4 or 5 (depending on the year level) one hour lessons of Physical Education per fortnight.  The purpose of core Physical Education is to promote and develop each student’s physical fitness and movement skills through a variety of activities.

 

Years 7 and 8

Senior PE Courses

Level 1 (20 credits)

This course comprises of five Physical Education Achievement Standards, covering a range of sporting and recreational activities.  Students will develop an understanding of how the body functions and what is required to make it perform well. Students will further develop their movement skills and interpersonal skills when communicating and working with others.

Level 2 (19-21 credits)

This one year course comprises of 5 PE achievement standards and involves studying:

  • structure of the body as related to physical activity
  • physiological responses to physical activity
  • processes and factors involved in the learning and application of physical skills
  • applying principles to analysis of human mechanics
  • use of planned exercise to promote healthy functioning of the body
  • applying effective communication, decision-making and leadership

Year 13  -  Level 3 (20 Credits)

Teaching and learning in this course centres around the concept of Hauora/Wellbeing , and personal performance and participation within a range of physical activities and sport.  The course comprises of five Physical Education Achievement Standards.  Students will develop their understanding of physical activity and sport at both national and international levels. Students are required to plan to improve, and appraise and review, their own performance and the performance of others. The development of the following skills will be important – self-management, communication, risk assessment, social and cooperative, leadership and research. Students will develop their knowledge in the application of sports science principles (eg biomechanics) to performance.
