Homestay Information for International Students at St Dominic’s College
Our International girls are placed in homes with caring families who are eager to ensure their stay in New Zealand is safe, supported and rewarding.
Opening their homes to the New Zealand way of life is all part of the experience we strive to provide.
All our families are police-vetted, inspected, and many are long-time hosts!
Our students may arrive as strangers but leave as family.
If you would like to be one of our caring homestay families, please fill in these two forms (Application) & (Referee Form) and email to our Homestay Team.
NZQA - Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students
St Dominic's Catholic College has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.
This document safeguards you and is designed to ensure your stay in New Zealand is safe.
You will be living in homestay if you are not with your Mother or Father.
We expect that all International students are made to feel safe and secure.
You have a dedicated staff member to help you at all times. Tanya is on call for you 24 hours of every day.
Living in a homestay and talking with your family will improve your conversational English.
Help in the house is usually expected. This may involve clearing away dishes from the dining room table, stacking the dishwasher, keeping the bathroom tidy, and keeping your room tidy.
Most of our homestay families are within walking distance to our school. Students can also take a bus or train if they live further away.
The Internet is to be used for homework or contacting parents back home. Further use can be decided with the family.
Your host family will treat you as their own daughter and will welcome you to their family and home.
