We held our annual Book Character Dress-Up Day, and it was a wonderful way to round out Book Week 2026. Students and staff brought beloved characters to life, from Sherlock Holmes and Mary Poppins to Katniss, Hermione, and Monkey D. Luffy.
The day sparked plenty of conversations about favourite books and characters, and the competition was fierce for our best-dressed groups and individual costumes. Congratulations to Paddington Bear, Edward Cullen, The Crayons, and the Grady Twins, as well as to all the students who put so much effort into their costumes and accessories.
A special mention goes to Miss Melki for her menacing Eye of Sauron costume, and congratulations to our Religious Education Department for taking out the Best Department honour this year!
We were honoured to host bestselling author Graci Kim as part of a Writers in Schools visit.
Graci met with students at lunchtime, signed copies of her books, and even helped with the challenging task of selecting the best costumes from our Book Character Dress-Up Day.
Our Year 7-9 students were inspired by Graci as she shared her journey to becoming a successful author, encouraging them to remember that failing is not the same as failure-as long as you fail forward into the next opportunity. She challenged students to see themselves as the main character in their own story.
Graci Kim's Gifted Clans trilogy and Slinger series have flown off our library shelves, and it has been wonderful to see the excitement and enthusiasm these books have sparked among our students.
We are incredibly grateful to Read NZ Te Pou Muramura for facilitating this visit. There is something truly powerful about hearing directly from creators, and our students loved every moment of the opportunity.
