After winning the regional competition in Term Two, our team of dedicated Year 9 readers qualified for the SLANZA Readers Cup National Final.
Guided by student coaches Holly Barnett and Lexi Van Gils, the team prepared all term by reading, re-reading and re-re-reading six set books and trying to memorise as many small details as they could.
The competition brought together the winners of 14 regional competitions around the country, and the atmosphere was tense as each team battled to remember specific facts, dates, names and descriptions from each book.
Our St Dominic's team stayed in the top four teams throughout all six rounds, and ultimately pulled ahead with an impressive three perfect score rounds to win the national title! An incredible effort from these passionate readers and a wonderful result for only our second year competing in the competition.
Thank you to staff Amy Silver and Vania Caldas who supported the girls and a huge congratulations to Amanat Chauhan, Anakha Kuriakose, Emily Knight, Lauretta Silver and Oshean Augustin on their well-deserved victory - you are now national champions!
