St Dominic's Day

Our St Dominic’s Day celebrations were a wonderful expression of faith, joy and community, as we came together to honour St Dominic and celebrate our Dominican history and the legacy that continues to shape who we are today.

We began the day with the celebration of Mass, led by Father Martin, and were especially blessed to be joined by the Dominican Sisters. Their presence connected us in a very special way to the generations of Dominican women whose faith, courage and service have helped shape our College.

Following a dedicated programme of preparation, students also celebrated the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation during our College St Dominic’s Day Mass. It was a beautiful occasion for our wider school community to come together in prayer and celebration, supporting our young people as they took these important steps in their faith.

These celebrations are significant milestones in the spiritual lives of our students and reflect our ongoing commitment to nurturing an authentic encounter with Christ, strengthening our Catholic identity, and encouraging our students to live out the Gospel through active witness and service.

We congratulate all of our students who received the Sacraments and acknowledge the whānau, staff, parish community and all those who supported them throughout their preparation and faith journey.

The joy of the Gospel was brought to life through beautiful singing and dancing, making our celebration of Eucharist a vibrant expression of our faith and the many cultures within our community.

The celebrations continued into the afternoon with plenty of fun, energy and House spirit.

Our House competition of skits, songs and dance showcased the creativity, confidence and enthusiasm of our students, with plenty of laughter and encouragement from across the College.

A much-anticipated highlight was, of course, the staff item, which once again proved to be a crowd favourite!

St Dominic’s Day is more than a celebration on our calendar. It is an opportunity to remember where we have come from, to honour the Dominican Sisters and the legacy entrusted to us, and to celebrate the vibrant Catholic Dominican community we are today.

Through prayer, song, dance, laughter and togetherness, we celebrated what it means to belong to St Dominic’s and to continue living our call to Veritas – Truth.
