Community News

Kia ora whānau,

Great news today with no community cases meaning that we can return to school on Monday.  Thank you for all you have done this week to support your daughter, their teachers and the whole College community.

Although it has been great to see several days with no new community cases, Dr Bloomfield has clearly stated that new cases are still possible and we need to continue to act with caution and do the right thing to keep our community safe.

With new variants and changed requirements for contacts of cases, New Zealand’s COVID response seems to be more complex and sometimes it isn’t clear what “the right thing” actually is.

Rich Tradition of Learning and Achievement

Our students enjoy a high rate of success in national examinations and, later, at tertiary institutions.
St Dominic’s offers a rich curriculum which ensures that there is opportunity for students to develop their academic, spiritual, cultural and physical potential.

We believe (and research confirms) that girls can more easily reach their full potential in a single sex school. A Gifted and Talented programme is offered for those girls identified as likely to benefit from additional extension and challenge.

Students Receive Individualised Assistance in Their Studies

All our students have their own academic coach from Year 7 through to Year 13 to advise on goal setting, review progress and to assist in determining the next steps required to continue the student’s academic achievement.

Learning support is available for any students needing a helping hand to build the capacities needed to achieve in the future.

Confidence Building Leadership Opportunities

At St Dominic’s we recognise the value of developing each student’s confidence to be a part of a team and to play their part as a leader.

Many leadership opportunities exist with each form class having a class leader, enviro leader, arts leader, academic leader, school councilor, sports leader, and a special character promoter. Other leadership roles are also available as Waiora leaders and Eucharistic Ministers to name but a few.

Enrol Your Daughter at a School that Encourages Achievement in All Areas

“What’s great about St Dom’s is the people. We have the warmest, most considerate teachers I have ever met. Their passion for education and teaching reflects off them and causes a chain reaction of positivity within the classroom – Grace, Year 10 student

"As parents we have always endorsed and encouraged certain values and standards in the upbringing of our daughters. Sending all four of our girls to St Dominic's College made it possible for our shared standards and values to be upheld and supported. With the College’s strong focus on academic achievement, personal growth and cultural diversity, we have no regrets in choosing St Dominic's. We greatly appreciate the positive impact the College has had on each one of our four  daughters personal and educational journeys!" - Wendy, parent

“I really like the international friendships I can make here. Through my school years I have made friends from a variety of different cultural backgrounds. We also have the opportunity to study a range of subjects in all four areas, academic, sports, the arts and cultural – Alicia, Year 10 student
