Students learn to communicate in an additional language, develop their capacity to learn further languages and explore different world views in relation to their own.

The languages programme follows the following plan:

Year 7  Spanish and Maori half a year each

Year 8  Maori and a choice of French or Japanese half a year each

Year 9 Spanish, Maori, Mandarin, French or Japanese for a full year.

From Year 10 onwards, languages are optional, and of course are becoming more advanced and more interesting.

In Yr 11, 12 and 13 NCEA courses are offered in all languages.
